  • Are You Lost? Billy The Kid's Tattoo | mindyourmind.ca
the time we were living under a credo of quotes and mantras that read like a time line and became the soundtrack of our lives It was our way of surviving amidst the mishaps of independence by throwing out the maps that resulted in a conventional lifestyle and embracing a fierce determination to find our way even if others deemed it to be a Lost Cause Little did I know that the term Lost would consume not only my vocabulary but my adopted way of life There s Lost Records the label I started to put out our second album that now houses 9 acts 12 releases and operates as a collective of friends running under the motto Kids in Bands Helping Kids in Bands There s the Lostice or Lost Office where I ve spent years booking not only my own projects but any friend who needed a helping hand as well as promoting new musical endeavors and preaching the gospel of the Lost Cause There s the Lost Bus which has taken me a great number of miles beyond what I expected it would and now there s the Lost Youth Music Society Once I began embracing the path that I had chosen as random and sometimes meandering as it may seem it dawned on me that perhaps to be a so called Lost Cause isn t necessarily a bad thing I began meeting kids across the country who felt the same way I did they believed that we could find our own way and change the definition of Lost Now if you re down with the Cause you re LOST and it s a darn good thing It was with the help of these exceptional people the crew who are part of the Lost Cause and my

  • Attitudes & Assumptions | mindyourmind.ca
Montreal subway I found myself making assumptions about the people around me based on appearance and what images I have been taught signify personal characteristics skin colour etc and then while I was tying my shoes I realized that everyone was the same pants and shoes all equal everyone on the same track waiting for the same thing but silently going about their own lives Calm The beach near Bayfield I always feel better near water more calm more peaceful more together the sun was so warm and safe I had gone to think to relax to get a break and clear my mind all the stones reminded me of all the pressures and fears I had at the moment but then I remembered they were so tiny in the grand scheme of things and that I was walking all over them It helped me put things into perspective but reminded me that all those tiny pieces are a part of who I am Paranoia Benches so weird but this picture is again from Montreal I have this paranoia about benches because I ve always seen people on benches and figured they were under some sort of distress from what Ive seen in movies photos posters benches are somewhere you go for respite somewhere you sit when you ve had enough you are troubled you can t handle one more step in life and need a break I always wonder when people are on the bench what their struggle is What they are hiding from and I don t want people thinking those thoughts about me so I don t often sit on benches in public this sounds ludacris I know but think about movies images who sits on benches House of Pain The door this is behind the hospital

  • Emily | mindyourmind.ca
the same I still love Christmas anyway I get upset or happy really easily like if somebody insults me it ruins my whole day and I won t be able to stop thinking about it for a long time If somebody compliments me I get so happy that suddenly everything feels better and I have a better sense of humor and joke around and laugh about stuff But it creeps people out and I end up feeling embarrassed about it I really hate that I can t be mellow like my sister She doesn t get depressed and she doesn t freak out or make a scene She s not weird like me I love her so much and I m so glad she s around because she always helps me think rationally when I cry or panic Over the years I have learned that my mom has the same problem that I have But she won t admit it and refuses to see a doctor I can t put a name on what it is that I have and I m really frustrated because of that I just hate not knowing what s going on in my head and if I ll be okay I don t think I ll be able to live normally because of my wild emotions and intense fears I m scared of a lot of things and I m a shut in because I m afraid of being seen by kids from school My dream is to publish a story or a compilation of short stories I really enjoy writing as well but I don t think I m very good at it But I m better at writing or reading stuff I wrote out loud than I am at talking to a crowd

into a frenzy of thoughts and ideas Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and thus with photography and all forms of art and beauty each person may interpret these works differently It is of course not my goal then to tell someone what these photographs mean or what they represent I only hope to share my impressions and perhaps to help some other people look at things in a different light On that note my initial reaction to these photographs was a sense of being detached from reality The dolls smile out blindly at the camera frozen in time with an expression of quiet amusement on their faces I find the photographs somehow surreal and the contrast of the bright white background allows the figures to stand out well To me these dolls represent an unrealistic ideal that our society presents to woman of all ages blond hair blue eyes and a perfect smile For many years there have been protests that Barbies and other toys present an unhealthy ideal to young woman and lead to issues of self esteem and body image In reality women as well as men come in a variety of beautiful shapes sizes and colours and no one has the right to say what is best or preferred or most beautiful The third picture of the group shows a doll facing the camera face molded into a perfect smile and typical blond hair slightly messed up I look at this picture and almost see sadness in her plastic painted on eyes This reminds me that looks can truly be deceiving and that though someone may look beautiful and perfect inside they can still feel pain and suffering Her hair covering one side of her face leaves me wondering what she is hiding and
